The Last Supper of Our Lord

For I received from the Lord what I also handed on to you, that the Lord Jesus on the night when he was betrayed took a loaf of bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and said, “This is my body that is for you. Do this in remembrance of me.” In the same way he took […]

The Parables of Jesus Christ

With many similar parables Jesus spoke the word to them, as much as they could understand. He did not say anything to them without using a parable. But when he was alone with his own disciples, he explained everything. Gospel of Mark 4:33-34 Jesus often taught in parables, an ancient Eastern literary genre. The prophet Ezekiel, for example, wrote in […]

The Miracles of Jesus Christ

While the crowd was pressing in on Jesus and listening to the word of God, he was standing by the Lake of Gennesaret. And he saw two boats by the lake; but the fishermen had gone out of them and were washing their nets. Getting into one of the boats, which was Simon’s, he asked him to put out a […]

The Lord’s Prayer

Prayer is the opening of one’s heart and soul in a conversation with God, and thus is an expression of faith in a relationship with God. Jesus himself prayed often, as noted in the Gospel of Luke – before his Baptism (3:21), after healing the sick (5:16), before choosing the Twelve Apostles (6:12), before the Confession of Peter (9:18) and […]

The Ten Commandments of God

God gave Moses the Ten Commandments on Mount Sinai to serve as principles of moral behavior for the human race. The Ten Commandments of God are the foundation of the moral code and legal system of justice for Western Christian civilization. The architecture of the U. S. Supreme Court building reflects this biblical foundation. At the center of the sculpture […]

The Gospel of St. Mark

The Kingdom of God The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent, and believe in the Gospel. Mark 1:15 The Twelve Apostles He appointed the Twelve: To Simon, He gave the name Peter; and to James the son of Zebedee and to his brother John, He gave the name “Boanerges” (that is, “Sons of Thunder”); […]

The Holy Apostle and Evangelist Matthew, was also named Levi (Mark 2:14; Luke 5:27); he was one of the Twelve Apostles (Mark 3:18; Luke 6:45; Acts 1:13), and was brother of the Apostle James Alphaeus (Mark 2:14). He was a publican, or tax-collector for Rome, in a time when the Jews were under the rule of the Roman Empire. He lived in the Galilean city of Capernaum. When Matthew heard the voice of Jesus Christ: “Come, follow Me” (Mt. 9:9), left everything and followed the Savior. Christ and His disciples did not refuse Matthew’s invitation and they visited his house, where they shared table with the publican’s friends and acquaintances. Like the host, they were also publicans and known sinners. This event disturbed the pharisees and scribes a great deal.

The Gospel of St. Matthew

The Lord’s Prayer Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen. Matthew […]
